George Theocharides
Dr George Theocharides was born in Nicosia in 1972. He graduated from The English School, Nicosia, and then he went on to receive the degree of BΕng (Hons) in Electrical Engineering & Electronics from the University of Manchester (U.M.I.S.T.), an MBA from the University of San Diego and a PhD in Finance from the University of Arizona.
Dr George Theocharides is an Associate Professor of Finance at the Cyprus International Institute of Management (CIIM) and the Director of the MSc in Financial Services Programme since September 2010. He is also a Research Fellow at the UCL Centre for Blockchain Technologies (UCL CBT) and Director at Goal Portfolios Insurance Advisors. Before taking up duties at CIIM, he worked as an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Sungkyunkwan University of South Korea for four years. Prior to that he was an International Faculty Fellow at the Sloan School of Management of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
In the past he served as a member of the Bank of Cyprus Interim Board, member of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), Chairman of the Board of the Cyprus Blockchain Technologies Ltd, as well as a member of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus -Kuwait Business Association. Currently he is Chairman of the Board of Management of The English School, Nicosia, and a member of the Training/HRCommittee of the Cyprus Investment Funds Association (CIFA). He is also a non-executive member of the Board of Directors for a number of organizations and companies in the financial services sector.
His research and teaching interests are in the field of analysis, valuation and risk management in the area of fixed-income, derivatives, investments and international finance. He has presented many in-house and open seminars on finance-related topics in Cyprus and abroad. He also appears regularly on television and radio programmes and often publishes articles in the local newspapers and magazines as well as in online media on issues relating to the local and world economy.
